About this site
Nicte-Ha is a cenote in the jungle inland from Playa del Carmen, part of the network of freshwater sinkholes across the Yucatan Peninsula in Quintana Roo. It sits near the Dos Ojos and Casa Cenote systems and is known for a striking halocline layer where fresh and salt water meet, along with fallen trees and shallow, sunlit basins. The dive is rated advanced and reaches a maximum depth of around 8.5 metres, with visibility generally described as great. It is a cave dive with an overhead environment throughout, and divers have also reported fine sediment on the grotto floor that can affect visibility if disturbed. Access is typically arranged through local cenote diving operators based around Tulum and Playa del Carmen.
