About this site
Nocra Channel lies within the Dahlak Archipelago off the coast of Eritrea in the Red Sea, near Nocra (Nokra) island in the southern part of the group. The Dahlak islands are low-lying coral and coralline formations spread across a shallow shelf, and channels between the islands here are known to be shaped by tidal flow moving through the archipelago. Nocra itself has a history as the site of a former naval base and prison during the Italian and later Ethiopian periods.
