About this site
Oil Rig Eureka sits off the Southern California coast near Long Beach, one of several offshore platforms in San Pedro Bay that have become artificial reef dive sites. The site reaches a maximum depth of around 30 metres and is considered suitable for beginners. Its submerged structure, like other California oil rigs, provides a vertical steel framework encrusted with marine growth from the surface down toward the seabed. Surge is a known hazard here, and divers have also reported current, algae blooms, limited visibility, thermoclines, and open sea conditions that call for live boating rather than anchoring. Barracuda, mackerel, and nudibranchs have also been spotted around the structure.
