About this site
Olowalu Beach is a shore dive site on the west coast of Maui, Hawaii, along the coastal stretch between Lahaina and Ma'alaea. It sits over a reef bottom with a maximum depth of around 12 metres and is rated a beginner site. Divers entering here need to cross lava rocks and cover a fairly long swim out to the reef, and a slippery boat ramp has been noted at the entry point. Conditions can turn dangerous in winter, when powerful waves have been reported. Divers have also reported encounters with parrotfish, octopus, eagle rays, manta rays, and even whales in the area.
