Olowalu Beach

Olowalu Beach is a shore-entry snorkel and dive site on the west coast of Maui, Hawaii, located across from Mile Marker 14 on Honoapiilani Highway. The reef here is commonly called the "Mother Reef," an ancient coral formation estimated to be nearly 600 years old that functions as a significant ecosystem supporting a large variety of marine species.

The reef bottom is coral, and visibility is generally good, making it well suited to beginner-level divers and snorkelers. Entry is directly from the white sand beach, with the reef accessible from shore.

Marine life at Olowalu includes Green Sea Turtles, colorful tropical reef fish, Manta Rays, and, from January through mid-April, Humpback Whales in the offshore waters of the Hawaiian Islands National Humpback Whale Marine Sanctuary. Whale sightings and songs are possible during those winter months.
