About this site
Papua Passage is a natural opening in the reef on the south side of the island, offering a pretty and easy dive suitable for all divers and courses. Depths range from 8 m to 17 m over a sand bottom, making it an approachable site for beginners and a comfortable second dive of the day.
The passage itself is the main feature — divers can explore around and through the natural reef opening, with the sand below clearly visible at depth. Those wanting more challenge can swim further up into the passage and take a drift dive on the way back out, though the site is equally rewarding at a relaxed pace.
Eagle rays are a highlight here, commonly seen swimming over the sand, and turtles are a good chance as well. The site is considered a must-do for south-side diving.
