About this site

Paradise Reef lies along the leeward coast of Cozumel Island, off the Yucatan Peninsula in Quintana Roo, Mexico, within reach of the piers and hotels south of San Miguel. It sits close to shore and is often used for shallower dives and check-out dives compared to the island's more famous drift sites further south, with a maximum depth of about 12.7 metres, light current, and a beginner rating that suits that role. Visibility is generally great over the reef bottom, and the site holds angelfish, lobster, moray eels, octopus, parrotfish, and snapper. Divers have also reported butterflyfish, garden eels, sea turtles, seahorses, stingrays, triggerfish, and even manta rays and dolphins passing through. Cruise ship traffic near the site has been noted as something to watch for given its proximity to the piers.
