About this site
Pelican Bay is a shallow, rocky dive site accessible by foot from the marina, making it one of the more convenient entries in the area. The site is popular with both divers and snorkelers, and the beach sees heavy traffic from boats and kayaks. Maximum depth reaches just 12 feet (3.7 metres), making it well suited to beginners and those working on equalization or taking a relaxed, unhurried dive.
The bottom is rock, and conditions on the surface can be notably choppy due to heavy boat traffic, which makes floating between entries uncomfortable. Surge is a factor, and the rocky entry and exit require care. Visibility tends to be poor. Water temperature runs around 65°F (18°C).
Marine life at the site includes starfish, angelfish, and stingray, along with kelp greenling, green anemones, bright pink anemones, red abalone, and giant spine sea stars. The stingray in particular draws attention from divers. Snorkeling around the beach also turns up fish activity near the surface.
