Ustica sits off the northern coast of Sicily, in the Tyrrhenian Sea, and its waters around the island were designated Italy's first marine protected area. The Percorso Archeologico lies along this volcanic island's coastline, in the province of Palermo, within a marine zone known for its underwater archaeological interest. Divers here have reported combers and painted combers, along with Mediterranean rainbow wrasse and ornate wrasse moving over the rocky terrain. Purple sea stars, star coral, and violescent sea-whip have also been spotted along the route.
