Pewabic

The Pewabic was a wooden steamer that sank in Lake Huron after colliding with her sister ship the Meteor in 1865, off Alpena, Michigan, with significant loss of life. She lies in deep water on the lake bottom, and her depth and the cold, dark conditions of Lake Huron have long made her a technical rather than recreational dive. Great Lakes fresh water has preserved much of her wooden hull structure over the century and a half since the sinking. Because of the depth involved, this is generally considered a dive for experienced and technically trained divers rather than a casual outing.
