About this site
Point Pinos sits at the tip of the Monterey Peninsula in California, marking the boundary between Monterey Bay and the open Pacific coastline near Pacific Grove. The point is exposed to swell and current from both the bay and the open ocean, and the surrounding waters are part of the Monterey Bay National Marine Sanctuary. Divers here have reported bat stars, giant sea stars, gumboot chitons, and both purple and red sea urchins scattered across the rocky bottom, along with blue rockfish holding in the water column above the reef.
