Prinz Eugen

The Prinz Eugen was a German heavy cruiser that survived World War II and was later taken by the United States as a war prize, used as a target ship in the 1946 Operation Crossroads nuclear tests at Bikini Atoll. Contaminated and slowly leaking, she was towed to Kwajalein Atoll, where she eventually capsized and sank in 1946, and now rests upside down near Enubuj (Carlson) Island with part of her stern breaching the surface at low tide. The wreck lies in shallow water for the stern area down to deeper sections toward the bow, and divers can see her large screws and rudder near the surface. Diving her means navigating an inverted hull, which adds disorientation and is generally considered a dive for those with some wreck experience.
