About this site
Pulau Purup lies among the small islands off West Papua, in the region around Cenderawasih Bay on the eastern side of Indonesia's Bird's Head peninsula. The reef here reaches a maximum depth of around 25 metres and is reached mainly by boat from local settlements along this remote stretch of coastline. Divers have also reported hammerhead sharks around the site.
