About this site
Raftsund is a narrow strait running between the Lofoten and Vesteralen archipelagos in Nordland county, northern Norway, separating the islands around Sandoya and Lonkan from the mainland side of the sound. The channel is known for strong tidal flow funneling between steep, mountainous shores, a feature that shapes boat traffic and conditions throughout the strait. Sandoya sits within this network of islands along the sound.
