About this site
Rainbow Reef is a shallow coral reef dive site located off Miami, reaching a maximum depth of 7.6 metres (25 feet), and suited to Open Water-level divers.
The reef terrain features sponges in a range of colours alongside patches of living coral, with the structure providing habitat for a broad mix of reef species. Larger residents include parrotfish, angelfish, grouper, barracuda, pufferfish, lizardfish, and hogfish, while juvenile tropical fish are particularly abundant on the reef during spring and summer. Turtles and anhinga are also seen here, and sponges are a prominent feature throughout.
Visibility at the site is good, and current is moderate. Water temperature sits around 23 °C. The site is rated appropriate for beginner divers, making it a practical choice for those new to reef diving or those building experience in open-water conditions.
