Reqqa Point

Reqqa Point (Ras ir-Reqqa) is the most northerly point of Gozo, Malta, and the entry for one of the best dives on the north coast. The north coast is rugged and the small road down to the coast can be exciting for anyone unfamiliar with it. The point gives a little shelter from the west. You enter by a ladder a few metres tall or by giant stride from a small flat shelf.

The bottom here is at about 20 m and slopes away with large boulders to about 60 m, where the sand levels out. After descending, follow the wall, which is on your left shoulder. A small swim-through takes you to 30 m, a good place for a deeper dive, as the wall continues to 60 m. Large dusky grouper and tuna are not uncommon in the deeper water.

Rising to a plateau at 16 to 20 m, you usually find an abundance of marine life, including octopus, cuttlefish, triton shells and larger Mediterranean morays, and jackfish hunting the large shoals of damselfish and baitfish. Visibility is great, the water is crystal clear, and you can finish with a slow, shallow return in the sunlight.
