About this site
The RMS Quetta was a steamship that struck an uncharted rock in the Adolphus Channel of the Torres Strait, off Cape York in far north Queensland, and sank in 1890 with significant loss of life. The wreck lies in the waters near Thursday Island and has long been known to divers from that region as a historic ship grave rather than a casual reef dive. Given its depth and location in a strait with strong tidal flow, it is generally treated as a dive for experienced divers rather than beginners. Much of the wreck's structure and cargo has drawn interest from wreck historians over the decades since it sank.
