Sachen

Sachen, also called Shashe, is a shallow reef dive in Bocas del Toro, Panama, with an average depth of 40 feet (12 metres) and a maximum of 52 feet (16 metres). Its name is said to come from a sunken ship, though which ship and when it sank is still debated.

The reef is among the most vibrant and healthy in Panama, with pink, red, blue, purple, orange, yellow and lavender coral. The Sea Goddess nudibranch lives here, and nurse sharks rest on the sandy bottom beside some of the largest and brightest starfish.

It is a good night dive, but it can only be reached when conditions are right, because the strong surges and currents and a difficult entry make it more challenging than the depth suggests. Strong swimming skills and previous diving experience are needed, and it is rated intermediate.
