About this site
The Salem Express is a passenger ferry that sank off the coast near Safaga on Egypt's Red Sea coast in 1991, after striking a reef during bad weather, an event that killed many passengers aboard. The wreck lies on its side and has become one of the more sobering dive sites in the region given the loss of life involved. It reaches a maximum depth of around 20 metres and is considered an intermediate dive.
