About this site
Saltstraumen is a narrow strait near Bodo in Nordland county, northern Norway, connecting an inner fjord basin to the Skjerstad fjord system. It is known as one of the strongest tidal currents in the world, with enormous volumes of water forced through the channel on each tide change. Diving here is tied closely to the tidal cycle, since the strait can only be entered safely during the brief slack water window between tides.
