About this site
The Sankisan Maru lies in Chuuk Lagoon off Uman Island in the Faichuk group, part of Micronesia's Federated States. Chuuk Lagoon was a major Japanese naval anchorage during the Second World War, and much of the fleet stationed there was sunk during Operation Hailstone in February 1944, leaving a large number of wrecks scattered across the lagoon floor.
