About this site
Scorpion Anchorage sits at the northeastern end of Santa Cruz Island, part of Channel Islands National Park off the coast of Ventura, California. It is a popular boat landing and kayaking access point in the Santa Barbara Channel, with the island's volcanic and sedimentary shoreline dropping into the cold, kelp-rich waters typical of this part of the Channel Islands. The dive here is a beginner site over a reef bottom, with a maximum depth of around 7.6 metres, making it an easy shallow swim close to shore. Divers have reported the shore entry and exit as tricky at times, with waves adding to the challenge of getting in and out.
