About this site
Shaft Cave is a cave dive at Aorangaia Island off the Tutukaka Coast near Matapouri in Northland, New Zealand, an area of rocky offshore islets close to the Poor Knights Islands marine reserve. Boat dives from Tutukaka work through the volcanic rock formations, arches, and caves scattered along this stretch of coast, and Shaft Cave is one of these formations. Divers have reported clown doris, Cook's scorpionfish, eastern king wrasse, eastern pigfish, New Zealand black angelfish, and New Zealand demoiselle around the site.
