Shrimp Reef lies offshore from Townsville on the central Queensland coast, within the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park. Sites in this stretch of the reef are typically accessed by boat out of Townsville, a common departure point for trips into the surrounding coral cays and reef systems of the region. Divers here have also reported crown-of-thorns starfish among the coral formations.
