About this site
Smith Banks lies off the north shore of Roatan in Honduras' Bay Islands, part of the fringing reef system connected to the wider Mesoamerican Barrier Reef. Sites along this stretch of coast are typically reached by short boat rides from West End or West Bay. Divers here have reported longsnout seahorses tucked into the reef along with stoplight and striped parrotfish, Atlantic blue tang, and yellowtail damselfish. Blue land crabs and Caribbean land hermit crabs have also been noted around the site, alongside sergeant majors moving through the shallower reef structure.
