About this site
Sodwana Bay sits within iSimangaliso Wetland Park on the northeast coast of KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa, near the Mozambique border. It is a well known launch point for boat dives out to reef systems such as Two Mile, Five Mile, Seven Mile and Nine Mile Reef, which run parallel to the shore over volcanic rock formations. Divers commonly encounter tropical reef fish, turtles and, seasonally, raggedtooth sharks, with the area also known for whale shark and manta ray sightings. Depths on the inner reefs are generally shallow, in the region of 8 to 18 metres, while the outer reefs go somewhat deeper, making the site accessible to a range of experience levels though launches through the surf can be a rough ride out.
