About this site

Sombrero Reef sits off Marathon in the Florida Keys, marked by a lighthouse that has stood over the reef since the 19th century. It is a shallow reef dive with a maximum depth of about 9.1 metres over a reef bottom, making it a beginner-friendly site well suited to snorkelers and new divers alike. Angelfish, barracuda, grouper, parrotfish, and snapper are common here, and divers have also reported bull sharks, butterflyfish, damselfish, eagle rays, garden eels, nurse sharks, sea turtles, stingrays, and wrasse. The reef is part of the same coral tract that runs along the Keys.
