The SS Benwood lies off Key Largo in the Florida Keys, a freighter that sank in 1942 after a nighttime collision with another ship near the reef line. The wreck sits broken apart in shallow water, generally in the range of 15 to 25 feet down to around 45 feet, making it accessible on both snorkel and dive trips. It is a popular stop for its scattered hull sections, encrusted with coral growth and home to reef fish that gather around the structure. Verified data confirms it is rated a beginner dive, in keeping with its shallow depth and easy access from Key Largo.
