SS Breda

The SS Breda lies in the Sound of Mull, sunk in December 1940 after being bombed by German aircraft while at anchor, and now rests off the Argyll and Bute coast near Oban. It is a large cargo steamer, well over 100 metres in length, lying on its side on the seabed and broken in places, with the holds still holding some of its wartime cargo. The wreck reaches a maximum depth of around 32 metres, with structure starting shallower near the top of the hull, making it accessible to divers with reasonable experience but demanding care given its size and depth range. The site is a well known wreck dive for divers based out of Oban and the Sound of Mull, often visited by boat from local dive charters. Currents in the Sound can run, so slack water timing matters for a comfortable dive here.
