About this site
Stoney Cove is a freshwater quarry dive site located in Leicestershire, in the English Midlands, and has served as a training and recreational diving site for British scuba and technical divers over many decades. The quarry environment provides a safe, inland diving setting with on-site safety services, and has been used for everything from first open-water dives to more specialist diving, including surface-supply hard-hat diving in the traditional Siebe Gorman style along the shelf.
The site bottoms out at 36 m, with the verified maximum training depth of 10 m, and the bottom type is sand. The terrain includes a shelf along which divers can walk, and the quarry's contained layout makes it well suited to structured diving and skill development.
Marine life at Stoney Cove includes shoals of roach and perch, with individual fish recorded at 2–3 lb in weight. Sunken attractions include a Wessex helicopter, which has been a known feature of the site for many years.

Stoney Cove is a shore dive accessed directly at the quarry. Visibility has been recorded at around 6–10 m. Water temperature can be cold, with recorded readings of around 10 °C, typical of a freshwater inland quarry in the UK. The site is rated suitable for beginners, and its safe, controlled environment has made it a go-to venue for open-water training across all levels of diver certification.
