Tama Reef lies off the coast of Niue, a raised coral island in the South Pacific known for the unusually clear water surrounding it, a result of the island having no rivers or runoff to cloud the sea. Dive sites around Niue are typically reached by small boat from Alofi, with the coastline dropping quickly into deep water just offshore. Tama Reef reaches a maximum depth of around 37 metres.
