Tanjung Run

Run Island is one of the smaller Banda Islands in Maluku, Indonesia, historically notable as the nutmeg island once traded to the Dutch in exchange for Manhattan. Tanjung Run refers to a point along its coastline, reached by boat from the surrounding Banda Sea, where the reef bottom stays shallow enough for a beginner dive to a maximum depth of around 17 metres. The Banda Islands sit on volcanic slopes that drop into deep water not far from shore, though this particular point stays gentler and more accessible. Divers here have reported bumphead parrotfish, eagle rays, lionfish, tuna, and even manta rays and hammerhead sharks passing through.
