About this site
The Cavern sits at San Pedro Nolasco Island, an uninhabited protected island in the Gulf of California a few kilometers off San Carlos and Guaymas, Sonora, where rocky shoreline drops steeply into deep water. Divers here have reported California sea lions among the rocks, along with reef residents such as Cortez clingfish, Cortez damselfish, finescale triggerfish, king angelfish, Panamic cushion stars, and Panamic sergeant majors. The island's cave and cavern formations are part of what draws divers out from the Sonoran mainland, alongside its better known sea lion colonies.
