About this site
The Great Wall lies off Aorangi Island near Matapouri, part of the Poor Knights Islands region on Northland's east coast, an area known for its volcanic drop-offs and archways carved into the rock. This site reaches a maximum depth of around 40 metres and is rated an advanced dive. Divers have reported sharp depth drops, strong currents, and hazards associated with wreck diving here, so the steep terrain typical of the Poor Knights is matched by conditions that call for a cautious approach.
