About this site
The Maori is a wreck site off the Cape Town coast near Duiker Point, on the Atlantic seaboard of the Western Cape. It is named for the SS Maori, a British cargo steamship that sank on this stretch of coastline in the early 1900s. The wreck lies in a maximum depth of around 20 metres and is rated an advanced dive, with a bottom made up of the wreckage itself. This part of the Cape Peninsula coast, exposed to the open Atlantic, is known for cold water and kelp-lined rocky reefs typical of the region's diving.
