The Maze

Niue is a raised coral atoll in the South Pacific, isolated between Tonga, Samoa, and the Cook Islands, and its coastline is fringed with limestone rather than a traditional lagoon barrier reef. Dive sites off the island typically involve swimming through submerged caves, chasms, and archways formed in this coral limestone. The Maze sits along this rugged coast, accessed by boat from the capital, Alofi, and its terrain of limestone passages fits that broader pattern of the island's diving. Divers here have reported blue-black urchins, bluepatch parrotfish, dark surgeonfish, lined bristletooth, manybar goatfish, Pacific orange-spine unicornfish, and pinktail triggerfish among the reef life moving through the formations.
