About this site
The Pool sits along the Cadiz coastline near Las Palomas in Andalusia, on Spain's southern Atlantic-facing shore close to the Strait of Gibraltar. This stretch of coast is shaped by the meeting of Atlantic swell and Mediterranean currents that funnel through the strait nearby, a passage well known for cetacean movement between the two seas. Divers here have reported sightings of common dolphins, striped dolphins, and long-finned pilot whales passing through, along with European common cuttlefish and nudibranchs such as the regal sea goddess and tricolored Felimare on the rockier ground below.
