The Raleigh lies in Lake Erie off the Ontario shoreline, in the eastern basin of the lake near the New York border. This stretch of Lake Erie is known for shipwrecks from the era of Great Lakes shipping, many resting in cold fresh water that keeps timbers and metal in fair condition compared to saltwater sites.
