About this site
Pantelleria sits in the Strait of Sicily between Sicily and Tunisia, a volcanic island whose coastline is shaped by lava formations and steep rocky shores. Scauri is a small harbor town on the island's southwestern side, and Toglio Di Scauri lies along this volcanic reef and rock terrain, reached by boat from the local coast. Divers here have reported European spiny lobster and European lobster among the rocky ledges, along with gorgonian growth including pink sea fans, violescent sea-whips, and yellow and white gorgonians. Star coral, sunset cup coral, and yellow cluster anemones have also been noted encrusting the volcanic rock, with purple sea stars spotted across the site.
