About this site
Tor Paterno lies off Rome's coast in the Tyrrhenian Sea, a submerged pinnacle rising from 50 meters to just 8 meters below the surface. Schools of barracuda and amberjack patrol the rocky slopes, while groupers hide in crevices. The clear waters offer excellent visibility, with occasional sightings of eagle rays. Strong currents attract pelagic life, making it ideal for advanced divers. The site's volcanic origins create dramatic drop-offs and swim-throughs. Depths range from 15 to 40 meters, with the best conditions in summer and early autumn.
