Tortugas sits along the Caribbean coastline near Playa del Carmen, on the Yucatan Peninsula in Quintana Roo, and is typically reached by boat from Playa del Carmen along the reef systems paralleling the shore. The reef reaches a maximum depth of around 30 metres, with good visibility and medium current, and is rated an advanced dive. Divers have reported batfish, bull sharks, nurse sharks, eagle rays, moray eels, and sea turtles around the reef.
