About this site
The Underwater Great Wall sits inland in Hebei province, where a stretch of the Ming-era fortification was submerged after a reservoir dam flooded the valley it once ran through. Coordinates place it in the hilly reservoir country north of Beijing, in dammed valley terrain that covers several sections of the old wall line. Divers are drawn to it for the novelty of a historic stone structure underwater rather than any reef or marine feature, descending along the submerged wall to a maximum depth of around 65 metres. It is rated an advanced dive.
