About this site
The largest ship ever deliberately sunk as an artificial reef — an aircraft carrier over 270 metres long, sent down in 2006 off Pensacola. Her island superstructure rises to around 24 metres while her flight deck and hangar lie deeper, from 40 metres down, so exploring her means real depth. Amberjack, barracuda and goliath grouper now patrol the steel. The scale is staggering, and the depth makes her a technical or advanced dive.
