About this site
The USS Strength is a decommissioned 184-foot naval minesweeper resting on the Gulf Coast floor approximately 5.75 miles from St. Andrews Pass, near Panama City Beach, Florida. After its service life ended, the vessel was sunk with explosives and has since served as a Navy dive salvage training site.
The wreck sits in the inshore zone typical of the Panama City Beach area, with depths running to sand at around 75 feet (23.5 m). Most of the dive takes place above 60 feet (18 m), placing it within reach of intermediate-level divers on a standard two-tank charter trip to the area east of the pass.
Access is by boat, and the site is commonly paired with nearby wrecks and artificial reefs — such as the Red Sea Tug and bridge spans — as the second dive on a two-tank charter. The best diving season in the Panama City Beach area runs from April to October.
