Windjammer

The Windjammer, also known as the Windjammer Wreck or Bird Key Wreck, lies off Loggerhead Key in Dry Tortugas National Park, west of Key West in the Florida Keys. It is the remains of an iron-hulled sailing ship, believed to be the Avanti, which wrecked on the reef in the early 20th century. The site sits in shallow water on a coral reef, with scattered wreckage including large sections of hull plating and ribs visible above the sand, making it accessible to a range of divers and snorkelers. It draws divers for the combination of historical wreckage and reef life typical of the Dry Tortugas, including tropical fish and healthy coral growth. Because Dry Tortugas is remote, reachable only by boat or seaplane from Key West, the site sees far less traffic than sites closer to the mainland Keys.
