Batu Belah is a shore-entry reef dive site located along the Balinese coast, associated with the Amed area and situated near a natural bay. The site sits in waters fed by nutrient-rich currents from the Lombok Strait, cooled by volcanic lava flows, which drive its notable marine diversity. A nearby temple gives the site its full local name in some references.
The reef runs from a shallow entry point down to a maximum of 40 metres, with the practical dive range typically described as 3–30 metres depending on certification and conditions. The terrain combines sandy and rocky bottom with areas of coral reef, colourful sponge corals, and patches of volcanic sand. The site shares its sector with the adjacent Sidem area; Batu Belah is the reef-focused environment while Sidem leans toward muck and macro, and the two can sometimes be combined in a single dive depending on route and conditions.
Marine life at Batu Belah includes a variety of tropical fish, colourful sponge corals, pygmy seahorses, ghost pipefish, and lemon gobies. The nutrient-rich water supports high diversity, and the site is noted for muck-diving potential alongside its reef character. Sightings vary with season, conditions, and luck.
Entry is from the shore, either from a sandy and rocky beach or from the natural bay, and the site is reached quickly from the entry point. Visibility ranges from 15 to 30 metres, water temperature runs between 26 and 30 °C, and current is generally none to moderate and described elsewhere as gentle. The slow pace required for searching macro subjects also suits controlled buoyancy practice.
The site is suitable for beginners and certified divers, with depth profiles adapted to level and comfort. The bottom type is sand, current is light, and the route is typically confirmed on the day according to conditions, diver level, and photographic interest.
