Bream Rock is a reef west of Black Head, just inside the Old Head of Kinsale. It starts at 8 m and goes down to 25 m. A strong current runs over it, so it is best dived at slack water.
The current washes the reef with colour from many anemones. The plumose anemones are especially fine, in all three colour variations, with elegant anemones, dahlia anemones and small jewel anemones. Many nudibranch species are on show, conger eels and crayfish are common and a seal may come to look at you. In spring, lumpsuckers guard their eggs in the shallower part of the reef.
