Burns Point is a fairly protected shore dive at West Dover, Nova Scotia, at 44.488342, -63.866981. It is an easy dive with a challenging entry and exit, rated Open Water.
A fair hike from the upper road is needed. The site is best dived at high tide because entry can be challenging at low tide, though there are two spots to enter the water.
Depth ranges from 30 ft to 65 ft (9.4 m to 19.8 m). The channel from the shore to the sheltering islands is 65 ft deep with a gravel bottom, and the shoreline drops in a series of ledges and cliffs into it. There is a wall to explore with easy navigation, and areas of huge boulders with pockets where marine life sits. If you swim around the island, allow a dive time of about 80 minutes. The depth on the far side of the island is around 15 ft (4.5 m).
Life changes with the season and includes nudibranchs, cunners, lobster, gooseberries, starfish and jellyfish.
