Cape Douglas is a dive site on the western coast of Fernandina Island, the most westerly island in the Galápagos archipelago, known for its exceptional opportunity to observe species found nowhere else on Earth both above and below the surface. It is a drift dive, carried by medium to strong currents, reaching a maximum depth of around 20.9 metres (68 ft), with visibility ranging from roughly 10 to 15 metres (32–49 ft).
The site is conducted from a boat, with divers entering the water and drifting along the site rather than swimming against the current. The experience above the surface includes sightings of Galápagos Flightless Cormorants, Galápagos Penguins, and Galápagos Marine Iguanas before descent, with the marine iguanas — particularly the larger males — continuing to be visible underwater as they swim and feed on rocks below the surface.
Underwater, divers may encounter Red-lipped Batfish, Horn Sharks, Mola Mola, and Baleen Whales, alongside the marine iguanas and penguins feeding in the water. Sea lions are also present at the site.
The drift nature of the dive and the medium to strong current make Cape Douglas suited to intermediate and more experienced divers. The current is what defines the character of the dive, carrying divers through the site with minimal effort.
