Fairlight Beach is a small inner-harbour beach next to Manly Cove on Sydney's northern beaches. It is a good option on busy summer days when Shelly Beach is crowded and hard to reach, and it is easy to get to by the Manly scenic walking track. The shoreline reef is a popular snorkelling spot, since you can swim all the way into Manly Cove.
The water is shallow, 5 to 7 m, and suits beginners. Leaving the bay near the beach you find many ledges and small caves to investigate.
Expect the common Sydney reef fish, including old wives, stripeys, leatherjackets, bream and sea pike, plus turtles, rays, lobster, blue swimmer crabs, seahorses, pipefish, octopus and cuttlefish.
The beach is popular for recreational boating, so carry a visible float and flag at all times, especially in summer.
