The Giannis D is a wreck dive site in the Red Sea, located on Sha'ab Abu Nuhas Reef near El Gouna. In April 1983, the vessel — carrying timber from Rijeka, Croatia to Saudi Arabia and Yemen — struck the reef and sank, coming to rest at a depth of 5 to 32 metres (with a maximum depth of 24 m confirmed). The stern sits at a distinctive 45-degree angle, which can make orientation inside the wreck disorienting.
The wreck hosts a wide range of marine life, including scorpionfish, glassfish, wrasse, Napoleon fish, crocodile fish, blue-spotted stingrays, batfish, eels, jacks, groupers, teira batfish, and dolphins have also been reported at the site.
The site is exposed to the elements and can experience strong currents, swells, and surge inside the wreck, so divers should be aware of swelling current conditions. Despite these potential hazards, the site is considered suitable for beginners when conditions allow, with generally good visibility.
